description
For three days I was able to be a part of a group of 9 amazing people that brought diverse ideas and skills to design and become part of the Junipers Elementary garden plan. We spent time on incorporating the kids ideas into the garden plan with multiple discussions and collaborations. Within this project we all shared important rolls like using our imagination and connecting with 4th and 5th graders, helping each-other out with difficult tasks like where plants should go or how much they cost and then, teaching part of the collaborative lesson. We worked with classmates outside of a regular school day including the locations of Juniper and Smiley Cafe to give us a sense of matureness and spark of adventure.

Reflection
Sophomore Inspire Week Reflection
Now if I am reflecting collaboration was very difficult for me to accomplish and stand by when given a important task. Nothing is wrong with the determination that follows through my body when in action but it can take away from others experiences. I saw the need to organize the lesson plan document when it was not needed or to just have things my way in the first brainstorming day. Collective work is what makes beautiful work. By each individual and their own minds coming together creates this world, these progressive ideas. Strongly I stand with my voice and experience, but where are others going to share and incorporate minds into our work? Wake up call to the idea of what is, not what should be or what to look for. Lesson planning and communicating to others about what we need to get done or to then have to rely on is why I tend to base my reliability on myself :) Use your peers and ask for the help that was right in front of you at one point. I took me a while to understand that I don't have to be the only one in charge of a spreadsheet for budgeting and then enjoy the presence of those amazing people.
For future students going into or picking an option, ask yourself what you're passionate about. What can you find genuine presence in and that benefits your well being and time in school! Personally once I was able to work on what I wanted I was able to really enjoy the main goal, which in this case was to teach and design a sensory garden plan for Elementary kids. Bettering yourself and using this opportunity to see and experience new services is an amazing way to connect to the environment around you, and walk away with new skills and habits when involved with group conversations or everyday life! But also remember to enjoy your time out of school (if it is based outside of Animas) and use it to grow and learn about all of the new people in your group or understand what the "professionals" to to enjoy it everyday.
Besides from seeing super cute little kids there was one in particular that stood out to me. I somewhat remember being in 5th grade and watching others struggle and try to meet what others are doing and what the teacher wants of them. Seeing this boy not want to sit down for our lesson plan and resist connecting in general made me want to help. I like to think that I can connect to struggling people or people in general so I took this as a task to involve him within the lessons and have him and others enjoy themselves. This passed my mind when reflecting because I don't think I could ever be a teacher but, a counselor would be a possibility. Where would I find the balance between the worry and helping of others and myself? Lucky I don't have to worry about that right now but knowing that is a possibility is always helpful.
